Alternative Treatment of Cat UTI – Uva Ursi

By Kater On October 1, 2009 Under Cat Urinary Tract Infection

The author does a great job outlining the alternative treatment of cat UTI – Uva Ursi.  He points out how using uva ursi actually boosts your cat’s immune system while antibiotics often srcrew up the natural flora of a feline urinary tract.  I know you’ll benfit from this information. If you are ready to try a natural remedy that incorporates uva ursi,  I whole heartly recommend this proven program – costs way less than prescription meds too…

Uva Ursi – A Viable Alternative For the Treatment of Cat UTI

The treatment for urinary tract infections for humans and cats are worlds apart. But in the homeopathic arena, uva ursi for cats and humans appear to be equally effective in fighting the infection. Uva ursi is also known as “bear berry”, and is from the same family of the manzanita. It has proven to be an effective antiseptic, diuretic and disinfectant, and is promoted as a good ingredient for formulas recommended to both feline and human species suffering from various bladder conditions.

In lower doses, uva-ursi is mixed in homeopathic remedies to provide a supplement that can be used to prevent urinary tract infections in cats. Uva ursi comes highly recommended by veterinarians and homeopathic doctors alike for maintaining a strong and bacteria-free urinary system for cats.

One of the most prevalent urinary tract infections in cats is caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli that gets transported to the cat’s urethra during grooming. Homeopathic products with uva ursi works to clear out the infection at the early stages, before they take root and cause more complications.

Uva ursi’s diuretic and antiseptic qualities work together and simultaneously to eliminate germs while promoting regular urination. This herb helps in flushing germs out of the urethra instead of allowing them to move upwards through the tubes of the cat’s bladder where it can be transported to the kidneys, and cause the life threatening breakdown of the cat’s renal function.

A wide range of homeopathic remedies with uva-ursi for cats is readily available in the market. They usually come in combination with other supplements for the optimum treatment of urinary tract infection. It is wise to check with your veterenarian first before undertaking a homeopathic treatment with uva-ursi as an ingredient.

This is to ensure that the treatment will not have adverse effects on your pet. Because of different cats’ unique condition and circumstances, there are indeed some situations when uva ursi may prove harmful instead of helpful. A cat that is already suffering from kidney damage can be harmed by uva ursi’s diuretic properties causing rapid renal failure. But it works well for most cats so there is no cause for deep concern.

In contrast, antibiotics for urinary tract infection in cats do not really cure the underlying causes of the infection, especially if the cause of the infection is physical, like bladder stones, or congenital abnormalities. Antibiotics have side effects that can exacerbate your cat’s condition, and when not used properly, antibiotics can actually turn an infection into a chronic condition, recurring over and over, causing much pain and misery to you and your pet.

As a preventive homeopathic remedy, uva ursi for cats used as a supplement can be beneficial as it is safe, cheap and promotes the general health of your pet by ensuring a fully-functioning urinary tract. Uva ursi is all natural so that it will not react with the cat’s diet and nutrition or any other treatments or medications.

Used regularly, it can eliminate urinary tract infections from developing for good, and your cat can continue living a happy and healthy life. My landlord had a cat that had urinary tract infection all the time. It cost me a fortune to take it back and forth to the vet and they let it out again with no clean water, etc.. and it was sick again. I had a friend who told me about Uva Ursi leaves and how to boil them down and gave it to the cat as she suggested – an eye dropperful 3 x a day for 3 weeks. that was in June of this year and the cat has not had the problem again, has gained weight, and looks great. It took him when I moved and he is now my indoor pet. there was also NO side effects and it stopped the pain after the 2nd dose.
